School has been kicking my butt. I didn't have a b-day party because I was too busy doing homework and studying for quizes. It's really bad actually. I almost want to quit because this is so hard on me, it kind of makes me think that I'm not smart enough to go through with this... yeah it's that bad.

Sadly I'm too strong willed to quit so I'm going to keep going because that's who I am, and quitting is just not an option for me ever.

On other news... long story short... (yeah long story)... I got engaged recently.

So there is a hussle and bussle about that. At first I was excited but now I think it's clamed down.

I feel like we are at the age where everyone is getting engaged or having kids. So it's not really a big deal. Though to my mother it's a big deal.

Here's the ring because everyone wants to see that. ^_^

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 264px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcQIct8kbPPHs73sbwSv8qs3gq4bWyAeJI7OAtvseVR1jDFWNy2FGhbhQU-OdFexMkJtNTKnksdbZrGgG0E-sYqd57vtvKUt1gURRdYsvkUamsmyNcIZk_-0w19CBnnguVEA2taKeKYNU/s320/z193196650.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340285199449726514" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 260px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYNviM2FFIAcYTtREvvARQFkA7S1QRNf3PwfNQvGLa0ZsRFIJmasidv2ze2IqKDd94n8U1Aaz50cJp4mOq3-jyIQ-s9_mJDmR_ZRhemFwwYrXDw365Rqhgyz5DV51rZfdkbktsCE36uWM/s320/z193196649.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340285197929918034" />

Oh yeah it's a ritani from the bella vita collection. You learn a lot about settings and diamonds when you get engaged. Me and Patrick were very lucky to get this ring at the price we paid for it. I'm very happy with it.

The school quarter ends in 3 weeks.

See you then or sooner or later... haha... yeah I suck at keeping up this blog... bad Melody.

Take care.rdrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06535443894477611103noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1697621904970046322.post-71474669523781771712009-02-27T23:44:00.001-08:002009-02-27T23:52:05.123-08:00Sew Everything WorkshopI got this book today, I have been stalking sewing books on Amazon and saw this one here. It's out of stock one Amazon.

That's okay I was at borders with my 25% off coupon and saw this book was there so I picked it up because it got some really good reviews for beginners. I have these high inspirations to make my own clothes some day but I need to start somewhere.

So tonight I have been reading over the book... it has some really good tips and the person that wrote the book really knows how to write to connect to my generation I think, it just seems like a friend is teaching you to sew.

The one thing that bugs me though is she has this one project called "get patchy quilt" were she tells you to sew squares together to make a top and then tells you to quilt it in 2 pages... TWO PAGES... basically it say she says yeah just sandwich the top with some batting and back fabric and then sew it together than cut off the ends and sew some bias tape along the edges.

If only it was that simple! Okay maybe it is that simple, but I have been quilting for a while now and I must have like 20+ quilting books and none of them are 2 pages long. I mean learning to put binding on a quilt takes more than two pages in any given book and she explains it 2 sentences... granted she wants you to use bias tape but still!

Okay maybe I'm just upset because she summed up my favorite hobby into two pages which I took years to not even remotely master.rdrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06535443894477611103noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1697621904970046322.post-9609816255929239882009-02-13T18:10:00.000-08:002009-02-13T18:22:14.380-08:00My BadMy bad... I have excuses though! j/k it doesn't really matter. ^_^

Though last week I was out all week because I had the flu... it was pretty steady at 101.8 for about 4 days, the worst was 102.9 which was on the second day of my flu. I have never had the flu this bad before... I went to the hospital and my doctor said I was lucky I got the flu shot because I probably would have had coughing and sneezing along with the flu but I only had the fever which last usually 3-6 days mine was about 4 and half with feeling pretty weak for about 3 days after.

It was kind of weird because I was just cold the first day... I had no idea why I was soooooooo cold and then Patrick suggested I take my temperature and yup 101.5 on the first day. I took some Advil and that helped a lot but I was still pretty cold, then I got super hot and then I would get grossly sweaty and then I would be fine for a few hours and then it would start all over again. The worst part was the cold... I was sooooo cold it felt like I was outside at night in my underwear!

I'm glad that's over.

In other news I have a new job - sort of - it's only temporary for 8 months working on some stuff for those in the know it starts with a T and ends with at. I start next month and when it's over I'll be back doing the work I do now, I think it will be great to gain experience and it sounds pretty fun. There is a ton of work still on the program I am now but they said they can let me do this thing for a few months. It's kind of funny I don't think my manager wants to let me go since we have so few people on our team... I think he's scared of losing me completely to this project... I think that's kind of sweet. ^_^

I haven't touched a sewing machine for about 2.5 weeks! That actually makes me feel sad...

Oh on other news I saw Donna today and she looked so fabulous! I love her hair style now, so super cute. ^_^

That is all now... hopefully I'll have my improv project block done this week and I can send it off. I know the deadline isn't till April but I want to get it in before it's due. ^_^rdrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06535443894477611103noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1697621904970046322.post-7370088862086631752009-01-30T11:47:00.000-08:002009-01-30T15:08:44.716-08:00Mom's PillowsI finally found them I knew I had them somewhere, they were totally still in my camera.

So here is the story, my mother knows I know how to sew... and so she wanted me to make her pillows. Sometimes I think she requests things because she just wants stuff from me that I made to show off to people that come by the house. Like my daughter made that for me, look how talented she is and how much she loves me. It's almost like putting one of those A+ exams on the fridge. She's very funny and cute like this. She still thinking of ways to replace "A+ exams on the fridge".

Anyways so we were out shopping and she saw this fabric at Walmart in the color she really really loved. To be honest I have never seen this color before, it seems to me like a dark purpley pink? Is that even possible. Anyways she wanted me to make something out of it, like pillows! Haha. So she bought 2 yards of it and made me take it home to do something with it.

I asked her what kind of pattern she wanted, she said whatever. I asked her what other colors she would like with it, she said whatever. I asked her what size she wanted it in... you guessed it... whatever.

Anyways I bought the fabric home and looked at it... and looked at it some more.. I seriously I didn't know what to do with it, I mean I'm not a super talented sewer or quilter by any means yet. I took out quilting books to get inspired and I looked at maganizes because this is for my mother it has to be nice right?

Eventually because it was taking me so long to decide I ended up going with a simple pattern of just square, and I chose a black fabric from my stash to complement the dark purple pink (I should mention here I think I'm semi-color blind so it might look purple pink to you).

This is how it turned out.

It was enough fabric for 3 16x16 pillow covers. I probably could have stretch it out to move pillows if I didn't use the purple/pink fabric for the back of the pillows but I thought if my mother didn't like the pattern she could at least flip it over and it be the solid color of the fabric she picked.

Here it is bagged up to give to my mother. I love how pillows can stuff so easily into a bag. It's kind of fun to put them in also. ^_^

It turns out my mother is getting new couches and she's going to pick the color to match the pillows it it was a really good thing that I choose to stay with simple.

Simple = good.rdrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06535443894477611103noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1697621904970046322.post-58935820138872198372009-01-29T15:53:00.000-08:002009-01-29T16:07:20.487-08:00100th post!I was saving this post for something good.. sadly nothing good to write about but I wanted to write something before too much time has past. I didn't want to "forgot" about this blog again.

Happy Chinese New Years everyone! For some reason I remember the ox year being a good year so I was excited about it coming again because the econ is sooo bad right now but sadly my mother informed me that it was the working/muddy ox year and it will be really hard also on everyone... (last ox year I remember was actually the golden ox year which is why I thought ox years were good). Oh well we just need to keep fighting on... I really believe everything works out for the best!

Just a few things to update about

- Work has been pretty busy we have some deadlines coming up and my computer broken down this week, it was kind of a pain to get fix... but I know now who to contact if I want things like that to get done asap.
- School is also busy next week is midterm week the only good thing about that is there is no homework due, just study!
- Super Bowl is this weekend... yay! Lots of parties and stuff.
- I got some new quilting books. I can't wait to read them this weekend.

Looking back this week wasn't too bad... through for some reason I wasn't able to quilt this week yet, usually I can get in 1-3 hours every other night while watching a show (I'm watching desperate housewives now... so addicting... I should have started watching this soon... seriously) but this week.. nothing.. well I had more homework than usual which could explain it. Also on Monday the day I could have been sewing I decided to wash and iron fabric (I have been in this washing and ironing kick since December when I decided all my fabric just needed to be pre-washed before sewing now.. I'll tell you how that goes when I sew more pre-washed fabric).

I wanted to upload the pillows I made for my mother.. I'll do that soon, for some reason I can't seem to find them... I think they might still be on my camera.rdrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06535443894477611103noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1697621904970046322.post-4055072741112202352009-01-23T12:19:00.000-08:002009-01-23T12:24:04.963-08:00White TotoroI was crusing around flickr and found a knitting pattern for a white totoro and thought it would be fun to make one day. So I'm saving the link by posting a blog about it.

It turns out pretty cute. If any of you knitters want to try it out.

http://heavens-hellcat.livejournal.com/730.html

Update on the improv block - I added 4 strips to it last night and I thought I was close to being done (I have about 10 strips going around now) and it's only 7 inches (needs to be 12.5 x 12.5)! People making improv blocks on flickr must use bigger strips than me, I'm only really using scraps. I must admit now that it is getting cuter though. I was just trying to stay with blue and green but when you add more color (I added a strip of red and yellow) it looks a little better. I haven't figure out why that is through.rdrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06535443894477611103noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1697621904970046322.post-24969335335924775812009-01-22T16:54:00.000-08:002009-01-29T16:11:01.374-08:00Improv blockI actually started working on it last night. Mine is not as cute as other peoples... I'm not done with it but when I am I will show it off... I'm a little concern about it not being that cute through...

The deadline is April 1st so I have some time to make a cute block by then. ^_^

I'll update with pictures soon. Take care everyone!rdrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06535443894477611103noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1697621904970046322.post-37213650913260775062009-01-19T12:48:00.000-08:002009-01-29T16:10:24.134-08:00Epic RoasthouseDarn me, I didn't get to work on my improv block this weekend. I'll try working on it tonight after school.

This weekend though me and Patrick did a dine about at Epic Roasthouse. I totally forgot to take pictures at seasons so to make up for it I took a ton of pictures at Epic.

Only I did the dine about Patrick got their burger because the waiter said it was super yummy.

This was the first course

minestrone soup, it was pretty good, there were fava beans, cherry tomatoes and some sort of greens. Actually this was a little to acidic for me so Patrick got to eat most of it, though I did like the fava beans. ^_^

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 180px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuSufs4txRGT3aPCYj05Mss0eR_LrxFjIx6wqDtC3AbxWljjWxhNe3-acpnV3AVAdh8T_eD2YjE17ivgyw9yGh3LQOhtwDOn5Muw5mdg9tJ4QnJ4O-4dr9dgCju0lsgcWsB3zXNyQEclg/s320/main.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293116534089147618" />

this was my second course, i believe it was sword fish with a potato croquette and some sort of squash pasta (it was strings of squash that was used for the carb part of the main). That change happened last year.

This year they raised the price for dinner by 3 dollars. 3 dollars!? Okay to me that sort of makes no sense, and it sort of feels silly but I guess 3 dollars doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. ^_^ Also if they raise dinner prices, you would think lunch prices would rasie too but those stayed the same.

Today I'm going to one with a few friends of mine.

We are going to Seasons at the Four Seasons. I'll try to take pictures of the food. ^_^rdrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06535443894477611103noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1697621904970046322.post-37118006543366225142009-01-14T14:43:00.000-08:002009-01-14T14:55:24.926-08:00The monster that came from the boxOkay I'm seriously going to try to blog more often I know I have said this before but really I'm on it this time.

I have been getting a lot of pillow requests from my family and friends and seriously pillow inserts are an arm and a leg, I have been basically been buying muslin and poly fil and making my own pillow insert. I did the math and they are super cheaper than buying the already made ones.

The cheapest ones I have found (16x16 insert) go for about 8 bucks. If I did the math right the cost of the muslin and poly fil run me about 2 bucks to make. Of course there is a trade off it takes me about 30-60 minutes from start to finish pillow insert to make it. Depending on how you value your time maybe it's not for everyone, but I have a good amount of free time still, well enough to still put effort into making pillow inserts.

I thought about making a pillow insert tutorial (since they are all the rage) but it's super simple I'm sure everyone who sews knows how to make one. ^_^

Before Christmas I seriously thought I was going to be in pillow insert making mode and bought this 10 lb box because that was the best deal, except I bought a ton of 16 oz bags at Joannes when they had that awesome after thanksgiving sale.

So after Christmas I kept bumping into the box and I sort of wondered what was in the box... see I thought there might be 10 - 16 oz bags stuffed in there... so what do I do? I opened it.

Let me tell you it's just one big bag and it expands fast! Within minutes it expanded about 3 inches above to top of the box. I couldn't close the box up again. Oh well. I didn't think much of it.

Slowly like a monster it expanded though...

Here it is at 3 days later.

Scary! It's almost twice the box size now.

It's pretty much looks like that still. I just thought it was interesting and wanted to warn people not to open a poly fil box unless you're ready to use it. *nods*rdrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06535443894477611103noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1697621904970046322.post-7197601416544772262009-01-13T14:33:00.000-08:002009-01-13T14:58:08.543-08:00Catching upI hope everyone has had a great vacation. I'm trying to make a 1000 cranes... we will see how that goes. It's kind of a lot actually it means 3 a day till the end of the year and I haven't made one since this party! Bad Melody.

-------------------

I told one of my friends how I am making game pillows and he thought that was so cool and wanted to know if I can make some bubble bobble for him. So here is the result of that.

I think it turned out pretty well. Everything except for the black and white are from stashed fat quarters. He's going to give them to his mother that use to play with him when he was little... it's a cute story when he went to kindergarten they asked what his mother did and he said play bubble bobble. ^_^

---------------------------------------

I got the hello kitty sewing machine!

It's super cute.

The only things that I don't like about is

1. it doesn't thread the needle for you (I know I'm so spoiled!)
2. it doesn't have a side thread cutter - I'm not sure what exactly this is called but it's that little blade that you use to pull out and cut your thread so you don't have to bust out your scissors.

Anyways this had the same thread tension problem!

I found it interesting that this bobbin holder opens from the side.

I did the same thing as with my other Jamone.

I think I have gotten pretty awesome at fixing bobbin tension now. ^_^ If only I can use this skill for good or at least more often, really the only then I can do is just blog about it and home someone that needs help will find it. ^_^

Ps. sorry for all the misspellings before! So I started with 6x6 in muslin and I planned on cutting it down to 5.5x5.5.

So you start off by just sewing two scrap fabric strings together.

Then you iron and then you sew another scrap fabric on both sides

Here is a picture of it being ironed after sewing a piece on both sides

So you keep doing this till you fill out all the muslin. Which actually took longer than I thought it would. I really didn't plan out these blocks, just whatever I pulled out of my scrap stash was added. Some of my strings were too long and so I had to cut them but then it was a prefect size to be added to another block.

Here it is befor I cut it. Looks really wonky. When I read the website they said the best string quilts are the ones that aren't planned and just done as people go, I wasn't too sure about that but okay I decided to cut to see how it goes.

Here is my four blocks right now. It actually did turn out pretty good. I actually over estimated the amount of scraps I have so this will be all for now till I create more scraps to make string quilt blocks out of.

I actually think this was an excellent way to use scraps that are string like. ^_^rdrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06535443894477611103noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1697621904970046322.post-87420371809463240962008-12-02T17:41:00.000-08:002009-01-29T16:11:01.377-08:00String QuiltI don't know if anyone else has heard of this... though I suspect they have since I'm usually the last person on the planet to know about stuff (or at least that's how it feels sometimes).

It seems the string quilt is a big deal these days. I found a tutorial about it here http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltpatternsprojects/ss/string_piecing.htm

It seems pretty simple. Look what I found! The sewing machine of the future, seriously doesn't it look like it belongs in star trek?

Good thing they aren't in production yet, I might want this over the hello kitty one!

I wonder what the price will be for this. Though I think this was designed for fashion people more than quilters. ;-)

belOga comes with a big "O", and an even bigger circular touch-screen which replaces the usual scheme of buttons and controls. This sewing machine concept was designed by Kristine Brückner, an industrial design graduate from the Munich's University of Applied Sciences with an impressive portfolio.
Apart from its less than ordinary shape, the belOga makes sewing more fun. By laying in a spool of thread the machine automatically conducts the thread through the machine - all you have to do is put the thread through the needle to get started. The centre display allows you to see what the stitch will look like in advance, this means less unpleasant stitching surprises. You can even enjoy the inner life of the belOga through two little lenses on the side of the body.Kristine notes that the belOga is not yet in production, so feel free to drop her a message (male.diven@gmx.de) if you know anyone who is not afraid to spice up the backstage of fashion!

www.core77.com/blog/object_culture/beloga_not_your_grandm...rdrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06535443894477611103noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1697621904970046322.post-86393540645071135782008-11-22T12:47:00.000-08:002009-01-29T16:11:01.378-08:00Thread Tension - Janome ProblemWhen I bought my Janome, I was so excited I started using it right away. BUT the thread tension was weird. It didn't show up right at all. In fact I have to keep my tension for the upper part of my machine at close to 0! I didn't want to complain about it because it's suppose to be a better machine than my brother and I thought eventually it will somehow fix itself.

See it's been like this since I have gotten it. I did all the things I "knew" like
1. re-threaded the top thread - didn't help
2. re-threaded the bobbin thread - didn't help
3. changed the needle - didn't help
4. re-did the bobbin -didn't help

I'm sure there are other things you can do that I didn't think of or knew but these were the things that usually "fixed" my brother.

Well it worked when I had it set to 0 so I just lived with it.

Now after looking at the Hello Kitty comments it seems that people that bought the Hello Kitty sewing machine also had a thread problem! And it's a Janome too!

Anyways in the comments they actually said how to fix that problem! Lucky me. ^_^

So here is my plate and I'm suppose to take it off.

I'm lucky that my plate is only held down by one screw. I had not problem tugging at all.

So to fix it all you have to do is take a little screw driver and for me I needed to tighten that screw between where my bobbin thread enters the bobbin holder and where it exits it.

BOOM that totally fixed my problem! Now I can have my top tread tension at 4 and have my stitches come out right. Sweet.

Anyways this really helped me and I thought if I blogged about it, it might help other people. ^_^

Thanks a bunch!rdrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06535443894477611103noreply@blogger.com54tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1697621904970046322.post-46508293272798571222008-11-21T15:37:00.001-08:002008-11-21T15:40:01.226-08:00PricelessI was just surfing around the web and I came across this one quote and I thought I would share it. I didn't write this at all. Someday I hope to write something this inspiring though. *new goal for the check list*

--------------------------------------------------

A well known speaker started off his seminar
by holding up a $20 bill. In the room of 300,
he asked, Who would like this $20 bill?

Hands started going up. He said, I am
going to give this $20 to one of you but
first, let me do this. He proceeded to
crumple the dollar bill up.

He then asked, Who still wants it?
Still the hands were up in the air.

Well, he replied, what if I do this?
And he dropped it on the ground and started
to grind it into the floor with his shoe.
He picked it up, now all crumpled and dirty.
Now who still wants it?
Still the hands went into the air.

My friends, you have all learned a very
valuable lesson. No matter what I did to
the money, you still wanted it because it did
not decrease in value. It was still worth $20.

Many times in our lives, we are dropped,
crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the
decisions we make and the circumstances that
come our way. We feel as though we are worthless.

But no matter what has happened or what will
happen, you will never lose your value. Dirty
or clean, crumpled or finely creased,
You are still priceless — Unknown

---------------------------------------------------------

I think sometimes I forget that. With Holidays around the coner I think this is a great message to have be out there.rdrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06535443894477611103noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1697621904970046322.post-27663579901224303012008-11-20T21:07:00.000-08:002008-11-20T21:11:10.671-08:00OoooOOooo another sewing machineMan I want this sewing machine!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV-2zlQyphUgQ7yDuNHEt2qyUcD8SY-Sy_QSLc50peiCy9FTaqy0qQljdv52JL_c6NivqTSflm6yojS9azS2ORY3VZ2HxHXlPHqwUIgG8sD2vKCO1YZzilP9UhNXUFQEMwRLt9XYvRaIE/s320/41QGHA3XK1L._AA400_.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270973195640789554" />

It's only 109.99 bucks at target.com - www.target.com/Hello-Kitty-Sewing-Machine-Green/dp/B000B8...

But I just bought a sewing machine and a Janome too to boot!

This is totally a horrible habit to have... collecting sew machine.... I remember last year I went around but I got super tired about half way through, since I was by myself I just gave up and went home. This time Patrick was with me and we went through all the quilts on display. There were a lot of quilts on display. It was probably 2 hours just to walk through them.

They were amazing! I haven't figured out what my favorites where that will probably be another, but Patrick is a simple person and very patriotic and so he knew right away this one will be his favorite.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqLlkuHnS1Y61WvQf4b3OsJePkIj6lOmkoF7yil9-glQHwKkBnB4FFnQczkOvLUyhtPPifu1puSNyplwdV_WgnYaxa2cbLLnAE_7y8STffgNGbylixRgxCz7x1OlQ_9BxGmZu0GfnexiM/s320/patrick's+favorite.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259487807301722802" />

I didn't think much of this quilt at first but there are a lot of details in it that makes you proud to be an American. ^_^rdrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06535443894477611103noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1697621904970046322.post-50794396953580821112008-10-17T15:01:00.001-07:002008-10-17T15:02:58.523-07:00Crazy TattooI was hanging out at Cute Overload dot com and one of the things was this crazy tattoo.

I thought it was interesting. So I took a longish lunch from 2pm to 3:30 to go to the quilt show.... sorry no pictures!

I will tell you I bought a Janome 720 - I wanted a little sewing machine to travel with, because it's kind of a hassel to pack up mine then go to Holly's (even though I love going there!) and set it up again. Only to pack it up and set it up again at home. Lots of work! Okay maybe I'm just lazy.

Anyways the Janome is soooo neat! It was twice as much as my brother (that I got at Costco). I can totally see the quilty difference. Don't get me wrong my first sewing machine with always have a place in my heart.

I think my Janome is staying at home and my brother is going traveling with me instead. ^_^

I also got a new cutting board.

I didn't get any fabric or look at all the quilts on display!! Definitly going back on Saturday to do that.rdrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06535443894477611103noreply@blogger.com2
